You may wonder why anyone would name a soft grey cat Pearl.  This volunteer wondered anyway.   But after I got to know Pearl it all made sense.   Pearl is pretty scared of new situations.  Put her on the floor in a new room and she will hide in a corner or try to scurry back to the space that she knows.   So yes, Pearl is comfortable at first in her protective shell.   As Pearl gets to know you (and her environment) though, she opens up and shows you that she is indeed a treasure.   Pearl loves people and adores petting.  The more you per her the calmer and happier she is.   Pearl has a low rumbly purr that starts out soft and gets louder as she gets happier.   Keep petting, and Pearl will eventually flop to her side and look up at you with utter trust.   Pearls are also supposed to symbolize loyalty.  Once you make our Pearl your own, we think she will be the most gentle, loyal companion.    So maybe Pearl is the perfect name for this lovely cat.
