Dogs Currently Available for Adoption

Yogi and BooBoo

Introducing Yogi & BooBoo, one year old poodle-mix brothers, weighing in, left to right, at 12 and 10 pounds. These little charmers are cuddly and affectionate one minute, wanting only to be hugged tightly in your arms, and bouncing bundles of puppy-ish behavior the next. Both would benefit from training to help them channel their energy. Yogi & BooBoo are extremely attached to each other, so we wish to place them together in a home with children above age 10.

Tootsie

This delicious little Tootsie Roll is part doxie and part beagle, but 100% pure love. She's not even 8 lbs, but what she lacks in size, she makes up for in personality. Tootsie has a love-hate relationship with people (she's all bark) for maybe 30 seconds or so, but once she gets used to you, she will follow you around like a shadow (be careful not to step on her!), sleep in your arms, or perch herself on the sofa back to watch the world from her throne. Don't let those tiny little legs fool you - this girl is a good, brisk walker and can keep up with the best of them. She's not comfortable around large dogs or lots of noise, so we are looking for a quieter home with perhaps one other small dog or cat, and one where she will get plenty of exercise. Children must be above age 14.

Macy
Lab/Sharpei Cross
Spayed Female, 3-years

You can lead this dog to water, but you can't make her get out of it!  While we've speculated that she could be a mix of Lab (due to color and size) or Sharpei (flappy-cheeks and wrinkles), her true Lab nature is clear when she finds water.  Macy LOVES to swim and play in the water, and if it's not deep enough to swim, she'd be happy to lay in a shallow puddle and soak.  She loves to retrieve as well, which is great for channeling her copious energy and playful spirit.  Macy is a very smart girl, and she enjoys her training sessions, so long as her reward can be playing with a ball.  She wants to please, but her independent nature sometimes gets in the way of her focus.  She'd be a great dog for someone with an active lifestyle that likes hiking, outdoor activities, and perhaps has access to water. Her new home MUST a fenced yard, and her new family MUST have prior dog experience.

Dillon
Terrier/Rottweiler X
N-Male, 1-yr

Dillon might look like a Rottweiler, but he's really no "big Dill."  In fact, this "Little-Dillie" is only about 30-ish pounds.  He looks like a mini-Rottie!   His story is actually a bit sad.  When POA first rescued him, he was  undernourished, thin, balding, and terribly frightened.  He seemed like a dog that had been abused, and/or stray for some time.  But in very short time, with lots of POA TLC, and some decent food, Dillon quickly turned into a happy, playful, and healthy little dude.  He gets along with everyone now, and loves horsing around with the other dogs. While frightened initially, he LOVES affection now, and craves attention.  He has responded well to our training, and he knows his commands like an A+ student.  He'd thrive in a home with another dog playmate.  He still exhibits a bit of fear when he is surprised, so children in his new home would have to be 10-years old, and know how to respect his space.

Monty

With those beautiful eyes, Monty could be People magazine's Sexiest Dog Alive! He's a Spitz-terrier mix, about 3 years old and 20-ish pounds. And what a Lady's Man!

Monty is housebroken, knows his commands, is excellent on the leash, and luxuriates when being brushed. He is so entertaining and smart, and has been known to watch where his favorite toy is hidden, and then when [he thinks that] no one is watching, he meanders over to the desk, opens the drawer with his paw and removes the toy! This Sexiest Man is very generous with his kisses (little bites on your nose), politely laughs at your corny jokes, and truly wants to please.

While he loves women immediately, it takes an introduction or two for him to be comfortable with unfamiliar men coming into the home. He is also not gracious toward new dogs or dogs getting in his face - he strictly observes that personal space rule. We will therefore only place him with a single woman or a couple (NO children or other pets) willing to work with him on these issues.
