Riley
Yellow Lab Mix
4-5 yrs, neutered male
We call him smiley Riley, because he's just a happy, easy-going, mellow, yellow, fellow. This Yellow-Lab mix LOVES people and LOVES riding in the car. Much less energetic than your typical Labrador mix of his age (4-5 yrs), Riley prefers a casual walk, so he can sniff the scents, and enjoy the sunshine. He gets along fine with other dogs, but is not a play-mate type so much as a companion type. He'd be a great dog for first-timers, since he knows his basic commands, and seems to be free of any psychological baggage.
Inquiries concerning Riley may be made to mediaschlep@comcast.net or by calling 860-569-0722.

Daisy and Duke
Dapple Daisy and Dapper Duke are 6 years old and are a brother and sister pair, who recently lost their elderly mom. (Why is it that the guys always have the beautiful long wavy hair and the girls get the splotchy complexion?) Daisy is the more shy and demure of the two. Duke is the more active one, tipping the scales at 15 lbs. At 17 lbs, Daisy is on a strict diet and exercises daily to regain the svelte figure she once enjoyed before spending too many afternoons snacking and watching the soaps. Duke had nasty ear infections in both ears and is now feeling much better. Both are sweet and loveable, and would be heartbroken if they were separated, and we wouldn't dream of doing that to them. They've had a difficult enough life. Having spent their entire lives with an elderly person, they would be happiest in a home with adults (children must be 12+), preferably with a retired, stay-at-home, or work-at-home parent, and to be the only dogs (although they get along with most other dogs).
Inquiries concerning Daisy and Duke may be made to berwoman@comcast.net or by calling 860-569-0722.

Niko
Akita
Neutered Male, 4-5 years
This distinguished-looking and proudly standing fellow was rescued from a local pound, after being found roaming with his buddy. While giant in size, he is gentle in demeanor, and gentle in spirit. He has been very well trained and very well maintained. He walks the leash like a gentleman, and thoroughly enjoys a nice long walk. He loves to be brushed - and anyone adopting him needs to know that there will be plenty of that! You've gotta love fur to love an Akita, but the upside is that he is huggable and affectionate like a Teddy Bear. His ideal home would be capable of long walks, and should have prior dog experience. A fenced yard would be ideal, as Akitas are known roamers.
Inquiries concerning Niko may be made to mediaschlep@comcast.net or by calling 860-569-0722.

Lab/Sharpei Cross
Spayed Female, 3-years
You can lead this dog to water, but you can't make her get out of it! While we've speculated that she could be a mix of Lab (due to color and size) or Sharpei (flappy-cheeks and wrinkles), her true Lab nature is clear when she finds water. Macy LOVES to swim and play in the water, and if it's not deep enough to swim, she'd be happy to lay in a shallow puddle and soak. She loves to retrieve as well, which is great for channeling her copious energy and playful spirit. Macy is a very smart girl, and she enjoys her training sessions, so long as her reward can be playing with a ball. She wants to please, but her independent nature sometimes gets in the way of her focus. She'd be a great dog for someone with an active lifestyle that likes hiking, outdoor activities, and perhaps has access to water. Her new home MUST a fenced yard, and her new family MUST have prior dog experience. Inquiries concerning Macy may be made to mediaschlep@comcast.net or by calling 860-569-0722.
