We are scheduling appointments for adopters to come in and meet our available cats. You do not need to choose a specific cat and we are not placing cats on hold for specific adopters.
Do you like a cat with a little gumption? Are your favorite characters in books and movies the wisecracking waitress with the heart of gold and hidden sentimental side? Do you respect those folks who don’t wear their hearts on their sleeves but who are ride or die loyal? If so, we want you to meet Josie.
Josie was given (or sold we are not sure) as a small kitten to an elderly person with health issues who apparently lived a very quiet life. As a result, Josie did not get a lot of socialization or interaction. When Josie was almost four years old her person was no longer able to care for her, and there were no family or friends who would agree to take Josie. A relative contacted Protectors of Animals and we agreed to take her in.
Josie HATED the shelter. It was too loud. Too much was going on. There were too many people and too many cats. So she spent a few months at a foster home, where she did very well and started to learn about being with people. She is now back at the shelter and ready to find a forever home.
What do we know about Josie? First, she calls the shots. She wants attention and affection, but she has to decide when she is ready. She loves to greet her favorite volunteers and will rub against your legs to let you know that she is happy to meet you. But she may grumble if you try to pet her too soon.
Second, Josie loves catnip. And food. And somewhat surprisingly, playtime. At four years old Josie finally learned how to play. If you have read this far, you probably already guessed that Josie has decided preferences as to toys. Her current favorite is a shoelace, and she will flail away joyfully at it. (And then glare at us for laughing at her.) Josie has also figured out that cat trees are a wonderful place to hang out if things get a little too noisy for her and has begun to really explore her surroundings and make them her own.
Josie would do best in a quieter home, either as a one and only or with a cat that will respect her space, as other cats do make her nervous. She needs someone who can see that inside this chubby four year old is a kitten that never learned about the world. And she would love someone who will let her call the shots. We suspect that in that home… with that person… Josie will end up curled in a lap… her heart of gold visible for all to see.
To find out more or to make an appointment to meet the available cats, please start by filling out the application on our website. Our placement team will be in touch by email to answer your questions and talk to you about our process. And if Josie is not a fit for you at this time or if you are not looking to adopt, you can still help her by spreading the words so that she can find her perfect home.
