“I'll be the angel by your side
I will get you through the night
I'll be the strength you can't provide on your own
'Cause when your down and out of time
And you think you've lost the fight
Let me be the angel, the angel by your side”
~Lyric by Francesca Battiselli
Today we are looking for an angel for our Angel….
Angel came to Protectors of Animals from another rescue in 2014 when she was about two years old. She was adopted and then returned about a year later. Since Angel is a tiny girl who is very friendly and cuddly, she was quickly adopted again. After a number of years, her new person ended up being unable to care for her, so a friend stepped up and offered a home to Angel. That friend reached out this February, indicating that Angel was not doing well and that she did not feel that she could take adequate care of her.
Angel, now almost 12, has been with us since February. She is an absolute volunteer favorite. She loves to sit (or stand) in laps. She likes to be combed. She loves treats, almost any kind of food really. She likes to nap, then play for about 2 minutes, and then find a new spot to nap.
Angel mostly ignores the other cats, as long as they acknowledge that she is the Queen. (And they do!) She only weighs about six pounds but make no mistake Angel is a boss!
We adore this quirky little girl. We have also finally figured out her medical issues. Angel has early stage renal disease. She is on a special diet which may help for a while, but we cannot ignore the fact that she is almost 12. And we don’t want her to spend her last months or years in a shelter. We want her to go home.
So we are looking for a long-term foster for Angel. In a long-term foster situation, you would take Angel home and love and care for her, but she would remain legally our cat and Protectors of Animals would be responsible for her medical care. The right fospice (hospice foster) for Angel will need to be reasonably close to East Hartford Connecticut to work with our medical team if issues arise, and would need to be home a lot. They will need to have a quieter home without a lot of other pets or small kids, and they will need to be okay with keeping Angel on her special diet (and mixing in some pumpkin to keep her regular). They will also need to like having a quiet companion (who occasionally snores) who wants daily laptime and expects to rule the roost.
And if you are thinking this doesn’t sound too hard to find, let’s add one last thing: they will need to be okay with her … erm… very specific litter box requirements. You see, it appears that Angel was trained to use pee pads at some point in her travels. She uses a regular litter box with pellets fine for …. well, let’s just call it number 2. But she needs a clean litter box with a clean pee pad in it for number 1. We have 3-4 set up around the shelter, and once we figured out her requirements, Angel has used them perfectly.
We understand that Angel is not a good fit for everyone. But as we often say, we only need one person when it is the right person. And we need to try… for Angel’s sake. So if you think you might be Angel’s angel, please fill out the adoption application (link in comments) and please mention Angel. Our placement, foster, and medical teams will be happy to answer your questions. And if Angel is not a fit for your home right now, please consider spreading the word so that Angel can go home.
