We are scheduling appointments for adopters to come in and meet our available cats. You do not need to choose a specific cat and we are not placing cats on hold for specific adopters.
Adoptions are now done by appointment only. Email poaplacement@gmail.com for more info and an appointment.
Three year old Elsbeth came to Protectors of Animals as a heavily pregnant stray cat. She promptly had her three kittens and spent the next few months taking care of them. She was a good mom and that’s where she put all of her focus. But now that her kittens are weaned it is Elsbeth’s time.
Time for what? Well, she’s not exactly sure. You see, most of her life has been about survival. Elsbeth hasn’t had the luxury of time to figure out what she really likes, she simply accepted what she was able to get. Maybe you can relate?
But now that Elsbeth has time, she is starting to figure things out. And we are trying to help. She is a timid girl who is nervous in new situations and with new things. So we know that she would be happier in a quieter home. And Elsbeth loves squeeze ups! She has asked that her new life include lots more of those! She also loves catnip and hopes to see more catnip mice in her future. In her foster home, Elsbeth loved to nap in a cat tree and to watch the goings on outside her window. She dreams of a cozy spot like that in her forever home.
Elsbeth is also learning how to play. She is a little nervous at first, and may need to be coaxed. But she gets very excited once she understands that this is a game and not a threat. Playtime is definitely a way to bond with her and to see her at her most adorable. So we know that she would love someone who would want to play with her.
What Elsbeth wants and needs the most, of course, is a person who will love her. Elsbeth will take some time to trust and open up. She’s looking for someone who will be patient with her, work with her, and understand that this is scary for her. She is an affectionate cat who will be a wonderful companion for the right person. But that person will have to be understanding and to know that things will need to be done at Elsbeth’s speed.
Is Elsbeth ever going to be the life of the party who greets your guests and will perform on cue? Probably not. (And if that’s what you’re looking for ask to meet Lady Mae!) Elsbeth is much more likely to be the cat who pads silently up the stairs behind you at bedtime so that she can sleep tucked in behind your knees or in the crook of your arm. She is tea and muffins, not cocktails. She is quality over quantity, comfort instead of speed. She is the loner who has been secretly hoping for someone to notice her… the mother who longs to be babied.
Elsbeth is finally learning who she is. Do you want to learn along with her? If so, the first step is to fill out the application on our website. Our placement team will be in touch to discuss next steps, to answer your questions, and to make an appointment for you to meet the available cats. And as always if you’re not in a place to adopt right now, you can still help by spreading the word about Elsbeth so that she can find her perfect home.
