We are scheduling appointments for adopters to come in and meet our available cats.  You do not need to choose a specific cat and we are not placing cats on hold for specific adopters.
Goose is FIV+.  Despite what many people think, cats with this condition can live perfectly long, happy, healthy lives. The Feline Immunodeficiency Virus is a slow virus that affects a cat’s immune system over a period of years. FIV is a cat-only disease and cannot be spread to humans or other non-felines. FIV cats most often live long, healthy, and relatively normal lives with no symptoms at all. FIV is not easily passed between cats. It cannot be spread casually - like in litter boxes, water and food bowls, or when snuggling and playing. It is rarely spread from a mother to her kittens. FIV+ cats should be kept as healthy as possible.  Keep them indoors and free from stress, feed them a high-quality diet, keep and treat any secondary problems as soon as they arise.

Who likes the shy boys? Who likes the ones who need loads of quiet reassurance and respectful touches? Who likes the gentle giants with the sad puppy dog eyes? Who likes the cats who carry with them all of the hurts they’ve ever received, but still hold onto a tiny flicker of hope that they will be loved?

If you love those kinds of cats, we want to tell you all about six year-old Goose.  He was a stray cat who had been beaten down and beaten up, had bad teeth, and had more than a few injuries. He needed to be quarantined for a while to heal. After healing, Goose came into the shelter in April. Our volunteers adore him. But that doesn’t mean that things have been easy for him.  Goose went to one of our experienced foster homes for some socialization and time to decompress.  He has recently returned to the shelter and is ready to find his new home.

Goose loves other cats. He chirps and meows and sends winsome glances to all of the other cats, asking them to be his friends.  And he has made a few friends amongst the gentle boys. But a few of the cats have also bullied him.

As for people, Goose wants to trust us. And he has come to trust some of his favorite volunteers. But Goose is a work in progress as we say. He was knocked around a bit when he was outside and we suspect that his interactions with people were quite often less than pleasant. Because of this it takes time for him to trust new people, and to feel comfortable in new places.

Still, we can see that he wants to be someone’s cat again. We think he remembers being loved. We think he misses sleeping on the bed and having someone who worries about him. And we know that he yearns for cat best friend who will show him the ropes in his new home. We want him to have all of those things again.

So if you like the shy boys and are willing to take on a project cat, one where the potential is endless, but will require patience, ask us about Goose. And be prepared for us to talk your ears off about this sweet boy.

Adoptions are now done by appointment only. Email [email protected] for more info and an appointment. Adopters must have an approved application before scheduling an appointment.
