Many people revere Ernest Hemingway for his literary achievements, but here at POA, we’re much more interested in his cats. The writer was famously given a cat who was polydactyl, meaning that it had extra toes. To this day, most of the cats who live at the Hemingway Home and Museum on Key West are polydactyl; some are believed to be descendants of that first cat.
Our beautiful gray and white Hemingway isn’t from Florida or related to those cats (as far as we know), but he’d fit right in. Hemingway has big beautiful polydactyl paws that are perfect for lazily slapping at the multicolored fleece cat teaser, one of his favorite toys. (We dare you not to fall in love with those fabulous paws!)
Hemingway is certainly mellow enough to be a beach bum. Want to hold him? No problem. Need to carry Hemingway from one place to another? Go right ahead. In the mood to groom this affectionate boy with the rubber currycomb? Fine by Hemingway. Feel like hanging out and stroking him? Hemingway’s good with that. Looking for a companion to doze on your desk while you write your next masterpiece? Look no further—Hemingway’s your guy.
Laid-back Hemingway is fine with other cats. So if you’re ready to kick back and relax with a marvelously mellow cat who has big gorgeous paws, come to POA during adoption hours on Saturday to meet Hemingway.
