In many stories, when the hero has been wronged, they rise up and seek revenge upon their enemy. They hunker down, wait until whatever is broken externally mends and then gather up their forces, their weapons, their friends and set out for justice. But these are stories for heroes with thumbs.
Herbie, our hero, has no thumbs. We don't think Herbie would ever want to be Rambo, or the Die Hard guy anyway. The sweet, scared boy that came to us wants nothing to do with where he came from or what happened to him, he will leave that to the humans that can help right those wrongs. Herbie's wounds from being abandoned in filth and left to starve are healing and he is starting to trust the right people again... he is even starting to play! His thoughts are about rising up, yes, but not in a justice seeking way. Herbie continues to thrive, getting better, stronger, and more trusting... despite what happened.
Herbie gets to be the hero, he gets to walk off into the sunset with a forever person that loves him and never look back. He gets to be a cat that is wanted, cared for and cherished….no one could keep that from happening for him. Herbie's spirit could not be broken. Now that, we think, is the best revenge of all.
