"I will be your Knight in shining armor
Coming to your emotional rescue."
~The Rolling Stones
We were all raised on stories of a gallant knight in shining armor, racing in on a valiant steed to rescue the beautiful princess or to joust with the enemies of the King. These knights were loyal and brave, chivalrous and adventurous, and usually pretty stoic.
Our Knight is almost nothing like those knights. One year old Knight is goofy and curious, a little clumsy, and very, very sweet. To be honest, he is also the tiniest bit lazy, and likes reassurance in new situations. Knight would rather cuddle and nap than go on a Crusade. Ride in on a steed? Nope. Face danger without blinking? Probably not. Knight would rather be saved by the fair maiden than save one. He is more Court Jester than brave hero, and would definitely prefer hanging out near the kitchen table hoping for a snack to being a Knight of the Round Table. And all of that is perfectly okay with us.
But there is one way in which our Knight is like the knights of yore: loyalty. Knight is going to make someone a loyal best friend and companion. Emotional rescue is something that Knight would be happy to provide, just as he hopes that you will provide the same to him. So if you are looking for a hero to sweep in and save the day, keep looking. But if you are looking for a gentle goofball who will cuddle and play, and possibly get stuck on top of the refrigerator and cry until you help him figure out how to get down, you are absolutely going to want to meet Knight.
