We are scheduling appointments for adopters to come in and meet our available cats. You do not need to choose a specific cat and we are not placing cats on hold for specific adopters. Kiki would prefer to be the only cat in the home. She does not enjoy the company of other cats.
A few weeks ago we told you about a lovely cat named Coco. Today, we’d like to introduce her daughter, beautiful Kiki.
If you saw Kiki and didn’t know anything about her, you might think this petite girl was barely out of kittenhood. In fact, while she sometimes behaves like a rebellious teenager, Kiki is actually a few weeks away from her sixth birthday. (Just a hint if you’re thinking of throwing her an elaborate birthday party: maybe don’t. Kiki isn’t a huge fan of noise and commotion.)
To steal a term Dame Emma Thompson recently used to describe a family cat, Kiki is “incredibly princessy.” Just look at her: delicate and dignified, with big green eyes, luxurious fur of snowy white and varying shades of gray, and an indisputably impressive tail. A tiara on her lovely head would not look out of place, but again, maybe don’t. (Kiki isn’t the kind of cat who would enjoy dressing up. Trust us on this.)
The bottom line is simply that Kiki likes what she likes, period. And what does she like? The laser light! Actually, Kiki *loves* the laser light. It’s her favorite toy—better than wand toys, stuffed toys, or any other toy you can imagine. If you want to win Kiki’s heart, prepare yourself for lots of sessions with the laser light. Kiki is also food-motivated, so you can bribe her with treats. She even allows people to pet her silky fur as long as they don’t touch her head and they pay attention to her signals when she is finished with that activity.
Princess Kiki would do well with an experienced adopter who can understand and respect her preferences. If your children want a cat they can dress up and carry around, Kiki would not be a good fit for your household. We suspect she would be delighted to be your one and only, but at the shelter, Her Highness has shown herself to be cat-selective, preferring those cats who show their respect by affording her plenty of space.
