“The best things in life, the very best things, happen unexpectedly."
From the movie Momma Mia
Our Momma Mia, 2 years old, is trying to embrace the idea that the best things happen unexpectedly. Mia came to us with her two kittens from a home with too many cats and an inability to care for all of them. The animals were loved, but we suspect that it was not possible for everyone to get the time and attention they needed. Perhaps as a result, Mia adores attention but also needs reassurance.
What does this mean? It means that when you go over to say hello, Mia will push her face into your petting hand. She will purr. She will step forward, almost placing her cheek against yours. And then she may retreat, taking a moment to make sure you really want to keep petting her, before stepping forward again. She knows what she wants- love, consistency, attention - but she doesn’t know if she’s allowed to ask for it.
If we, like Dr. Dolittle, could talk to the animals we would tell Mia that she is absolutely allowed to ask for it… to demand it even. We would tell her that she is beautiful (I mean, have you seen those eyes?) and special and worthy. We would tell her that we understand that everything is strange and new, but that it is all going to work out perfectly. We would tell her that someone is going to come in soon and meet her and fall in love with her and take her home and spoil her. And we would tell her that the best things, the very best things, sometimes happen unexpectedly.
To find out more or to make an appointment to meet the available cats, please start by filling out the application on our website. Our placement team will be in touch by email to answer your questions, tell you about the adoption process, and make you an appointment. If you are not looking to adapt right now, you can help Momma Mia by spreading the word about her.

Adoptions are now done by appointment only. Email [email protected] for more info and an appointment. Adopters must have an approved application before scheduling an appointment.
