Nobody puts Baby in the corner” is a well-loved line from the movie Dirty Dancing that is apropos for anyone who defies containment. We’d be able to say without a smirk of irony that no one puts three-year-old Tito in the corner. Unless, of course, he chooses to be there.
Tito is a force. He’s confident. So much so that he’s confident about his confidence. This makes him lots of fun and a happy extrovert who likes to play and interact and be a man of the people. He even enjoys the sound of his own voice, chattering nonstop to himself and anyone who will listen.
It’s hard not to like Tito. What is hard is keeping him confined in a place he doesn’t want to be. This is not a cat who is going to be happy with restrictions. He doesn’t just want to live only on the first floor or just in the rooms that aren’t shut. A limitation such as a closed door is a challenge for Tito that he is determined to overcome.
Whoever shares their life with Tito must share their whole life – he won’t settle for less. When it comes to other cats – Tito’s confidence can work for or against him. More reserved cat companions will detest his swagger. So too, might other confident cats, who sense a rival. Tito’s success with other felines will be circumstantial. But nothing, when it comes to Tito, will ever be boring.
