A few weeks ago, we posted two kittens who likely had feline leukemia looking for a potential adopter. Feline leukemia is contagious to other cats, but not to people or dogs. It generally does mean the animal will have a shorter lifespan. How short? As we told you, we never know. The good news is that most cats are fine, until they aren’t. And this means that they can have a good quality of life for however, long that life may be. We asked for your help for those kittens and you came through. Many of you spread the word and those two kittens were adopted last week!
Today we are asking for your help again. We are looking for a foster or adopter for Tux and Samantha- both of whom also have feline leukemia. They do not have to go to the same home. But they are living together in a foster home currently and would be happy to stay together. They are both wonderful, sweet happy cats. Their foster family loves them very much. But they are relocating out of state and we need to find a safe spot for Tux and Samantha.
Tux is a ten year-old black and white little lady who is described by her foster family as quick to become anyone’s best friend. She likes to greet guests and has been known to sleep with anyone who might be staying over so they won’t get lonely. The rest of the time she likes to sit in the laps or on the shoulders of her people and will sing and talk and tell you about her day.
Samantha is 12 but you would not know it from looking at her! She loves to play and can still get into mischief (especially liking to sneak a sip of any milk you may leave unattended. ) Samantha is just as friendly as Tux. She is the best work from home companion, and her foster family says that at bedtime she will jump into the bed purring like a V8 engine and rubbing herself against your hands, asking for petting. Samantha does have thyroid disease for which she easily takes daily medication.
These two lovely cats need a soft place to land. We would love to have them adopted, but we would also be thrilled to have somebody who is willing to act as a long-term foster for one or both of them.
What does that mean? Well, it means that you would be responsible for providing loving care, food and litter, and lots of playtime and cuddles. You would be responsible for staying in touch with our medical and foster teams. As we explained, these cats should also be in a home with no other cats or with other feline leukemia positive cats. Protectors of Animals will be responsible for the cost of any medical care or medication, will arrange for medical care, and will provide you with any other resources you might need.

Feline leukemia virus (FeLV) is a retrovirus belonging to the coronavirus subfamily, which means it is a cancer-causing virus. FeLV can cause severe anemia and suppress the immune system, leaving the cat vulnerable to a variety of opportunistic diseases. FeLV is not transmissible to humans.
FeLV cats generally have a shortened lifespan. Cats with FeLV require routine vet care, a good diet, low stress, and lots of love. Please keep them indoors to protect them from picking up any infection from outdoors. Cats with FeLV are usually pretty healthy, until they aren’t.
