Arwen – FIV+ – One & Only

Name:  Arwen

Age:     2 years

Breed: DSH

Sex:  Female

We are scheduling appointments for adopters to come in and meet our available cats.  You do not need to choose a specific cat, and we are not placing cats on hold for specific adopters.    Arwen is FIV+ and needs to be the only cat.
Two-year-old Arwen came to Protectors of Animals back at the end of August. She was found as a friendly stray by one of our TNR (trap, neuter, return) volunteers. She wasn’t the biggest fan of other cats, but she mostly tried to stay out of their way. She didn’t cause any trouble. But as a black cat who can seem a little bit standoffish, she has been waiting longer than most to find her home.
As my grandmother (and maybe yours) used to say, “it is an ill wind that blows no good”. If your grandmother didn’t say that, it is a proverb meaning that even the worst situations usually bring some benefit to someone. And in this case, it means that the cat cold that we have been dealing with for the last few weeks at the shelter has truly benefited Arwen.
Because it turns out that Arwen isn’t standoffish at all. She just doesn’t like to take center stage when there are a lot of other cats and people around. Instead Arwen shines in a quieter environment. (Maybe some of you can relate!) And in the quiter environment of the shelter during the last two weeks, Arwen has revealed herself to be an affectionate lap cat.
Forget playing hard to get! As you can see by the video that we will post in the comments, sit down and pat your lap and Arwen may actually sprint over for some cuddling. In the last week or two Arwen has made herself comfortable in the laps of any volunteers she can find. She has shown herself to be funny and friendly, sweet and snuggly.
So while we are happy that the upper respiratory infection seems to have run its course and the cats are all starting to feel a lot better, Arwen is probably going to be a little disappointed. What would make her feel better? Finding her the home she has been so patiently waiting for, of course.
So if you know someone who might be interested in a little black cat who wants to be your one and only, likes a quiet environment, and loves a lap, tell them about Arwen. And if you think Arwen sounds perfect for you, please fill out the application on our website. Our placement team will be in touch by email to answer your questions, tell you about our adoption process, and make you an appointment to meet the available cats. Let’s make sure that Arwen’s long wait is over!
From Arwen's Foster Mom:
2-year-old Arwen is as magical as her name suggests. One look at her silky fur and mesmerizing green eyes confirms it! Arwen is a confident elf, ermm, cat, who loves to chat with her foster mom, especially when asking for pets, brushing or lap time (all of which she loves). Arwen loves being around people, including gentle children. She loves her toys. She would do well in an active home where some of the occupants work from home (at least some of the time) and can give her the company she craves. As much as Arwen LOVES people, she dislikes other kitties, so she will need to be your one and only. But with the amount of affection she provides, you won't need anything else!

FIV+ - Despite what many people think, cats with this condition can live perfectly long, happy, healthy lives. The Feline Immunodeficiency Virus is a slow virus that affects a cat’s immune system over a period of years. FIV is a cat-only disease and cannot be spread to humans or other non-felines. FIV cats most often live long, healthy, and relatively normal lives with no symptoms at all. FIV is not easily passed between cats. It cannot be spread casually - like in litter boxes, water and food bowls, or when snuggling and playing. It is rarely spread from a mother to her kittens. FIV+  cats should be kept as healthy as possible. Keep them indoors and free from stress, feed them a high-quality diet, keep and treat any secondary problems as soon as they arise.

Adoptions are now done by appointment only. Email [email protected] for more info and an appointment. Adopters must have an approved application before scheduling an appointment.
