We are scheduling appointments for adopters to come in and meet our available cats. You do not need to choose a specific cat and we are not placing cats on hold for specific adopters.
Cats come to us for a variety of reasons. Usually, those reasons have something to do with being unwanted or unwelcome. Some of their stories would break your heart, but we know we can find them loving homes where things will be so much better for them. And then, there are cats like Bubba. Unlike so many cats, Bubba didn’t come to us because nobody wanted him.
Bubba came to us because he was loved.
Bubba and Herman* had a family. They were adopted from POA as kittens, and for nine years, they were deeply loved. Unfortunately, some things changed in that home. There came a time when Bubba and Herman had to be surrendered back to us in order to keep them safe. (No unkind words, please. It was a heartbreaking decision.)
Bubba is a complex boy. On the one hand, he adores being petted. When you stroke his big beautiful head and his solid body, he purrs with contentment. He may even roll over to show you his belly, which is often a sign of trust. On the other hand, as soon as the door to his condo opens, Bubba retreats to his top shelf, as far from that open door as he can be. He still welcomes you to pet him there, but he’s not going to come closer, not yet. Occasionally, he hops out of his condo, but his sojourn around the room is brief and he quickly darts back to the safety of what’s known.
In the security of his condo, Bubba loves quiet attention. He enjoys wand toys, and he likes to chase the laser light when it shines on the walls. He especially likes toys with feathers. One day, a volunteer read him a story, and she reported that he seemed to enjoy her soft voice.
Bubba is working on becoming braver, on learning to trust this unknown place where he never asked to be. We can already see how affectionate he is. Bubba needs someone who will work with him, who will encourage him and help him to see that home—his home—can be a wonderful place for a big, beautiful cat who wants so much to be safe and loved.

*Herman isn’t currently available for adoption. He and Bubba get along, but they’re not bonded.
