Coco is indeed precisely who and what she wants. It’s not every cat who has an actual set of rules posted on her condo explaining how she likes to be treated. But Coco is special, and she deserves to be treated with affection and respect.
If you saw Coco and didn’t know her story, you might think this beautiful little tiger girl was barely out of kittenhood. In fact, delicate Coco is seven years old and has a five-year-old daughter, Kiki, who is also available for adoption. (More on Kiki in another post.) Coco and Kiki came to us when their person could no longer care for them, and Coco was Definitely Not Pleased at this change in her circumstances. Luckily, it didn’t take long for her to learn that shelter life could be pleasant—and even fun. She loves to play with wand toys and explore open drawers or bags. Better still, she figured out that all these new people in her world could be counted on to treat her kindly, petting her and fussing over her and giving her treats.
Now, Coco can often be found wandering around the cat room, checking out anything that catches her fancy. She’s even been known to hop into other cats’ condos, just to visit. She still has certain strong preferences—for example, she prefers to be petted on her body rather than near her face—but Coco is working hard on learning how to interact with people in positive ways, and she’s doing an excellent job of it.
Coco isn’t the right cat for everybody. For instance, if you have small children, Coco probably wouldn’t be a good match for your household. But if you have some experience with cats who will need patience as they adjust to your home, and if you’re ready to work with Coco and learn her love language, you will be richly rewarded by this elegant little cat as she snuggles and plays with you.
