We are scheduling appointments for adopters to come in and meet our available cats.  You do not need to choose a specific cat and we are not placing cats on hold for specific adopters.
Three year old Declan came to Protectors of Animals because his people, who loved him very much, could no longer keep him due to their medical issues. Declan doesn’t understand. He is trying his best to be brave, but it is clear that he feels a little bit lost.
Declan seeks reassurance from our volunteers. He will rub his head against your hand. He will lean his forehead against yours. He may even give you a little kiss on the face.
We tell Declan he’s a good boy because that is the absolute truth. He tries to believe us. He asks us to pet him and cuddle him and play gently with him. We oblige and he cheers up. But when we walk away, Declan licks his lips nervously and moves to the top shelf of his condo where he feels safest.
And here is the truth: Declan will adjust. He was a well loved cat who trusts people and understands that we mean him no harm. In time he will figure out the tempo of the shelter. He may make some cat friends. He will definitely steal more volunteer hearts. Declan is a good boy,and he will soon figure out how to get along.
But Declan has always been in a home with people who adored him. He had windows where he could watch the birds. He had his favorite napping spots. He had two people who made him their world. And they were his. A shelter, no matter how good the care and how loving the volunteers, can’t replace that. So Declan will adjust to the shelter. But he BELONGS in a home.
If you think Declan might belong in your home please fill out the application on our website and mention Declan. Our placement team will be in touch by email to answer your questions, tell you about our adoption process, and make you an appointment. If you aren’t looking to adopt right now, please consider spreading the word about Declan. He is ready to go home.

Adoptions are now done by appointment only. Email [email protected] for more info and an appointment. Adopters must have an approved application before scheduling an appointment.
