“She walked by the ocean
And waited for a star
To carry her away
Feelin' so small
At the bottom of the world…”
~Rosie’s Lullaby by Norah Jones
One year old Rosie was put outside by her people, who then told their neighbors that they didn’t want her anymore. Can you imagine how lost and small and frightened she must have felt? Heartbreaking. But don’t worry, Rosie’s story doesn’t end there. Because the neighbors stepped up and stepped in! They made sure Rosie was safe and got her to Protectors of Animals, where she has been getting all of the love and attention she had been craving.
And make no mistake, Rosie loves attention. She will call you over if you try to ignore her. Because her meow is more like a squeak (we think she may be part mouse), it may take you a few moments to figure out what that noise is. Once you notice that it is Rosie begging you to come over and give her a few pets, we bet you will be unable to resist.
When you give in to the inevitable and decide to pet Rosie, you’ll be glad you did. She is sooooo soft. She likes to roll around and show you her tummy. Full disclosure- this is sometimes a trap! Other times, however, she will let you rub her tummy. And she will always let you rub her forehead and her cheeks. She will purr loudly and turn upside down so that she can peer up at you cheerfully. She may even squeak a small thank you.
But Rosie is not just a cuddly mouse. Rosie is also a very playful and curious girl. (Some of our volunteers have started calling her Nosy Rosie.) So her adopter should expect to have to rescue Rosie from the top of the refrigerator or to see her emerge from behind the washing machine with a dust bunny or two hanging from her ears. We would also recommend that you not leave your drawers open, unless you want to find Rosie napping inside on your favorite sweaters. She is a young cat who is going to sometimes get into trouble and then charm her way out of it. And we love that about her.
We are still assessing Rosie with other cats. We should have more information by the time of any adoption appointments on Saturday. What we can already say, without fear of contradiction, is that Rosie is a sweetheart who deserves to have a lullaby sung to her every night by someone who adores her.
If you think that you might want to sing those lullabies, please start by filling out the application on our website. Our placement volunteers will be in touch by email to answer your questions, walk through our process, and make you an appointment for you to meet our available cats and kittens.
