We are scheduling appointments for adopters to come in and meet our available cats. You do not need to choose a specific cat and we are not placing cats on hold for specific adopters. Sassy needs to be the only cat in the home. She does not enjoy the company of other cats.
Two year-old Sassafras (aka Sassy) was left in the parking lot of a local veterinary office in a carrier. We imagine her people were desperate, but thinking about all of the terrible things that could have happened keep us up at night. Luckily none of them did.
But that doesn’t mean that Sassy was happy about the changes in her life. She was scared. She was angry. Getting spayed and her teeth looked at (and one removed) did not help her feel better in the short run.
But in the medium run, something wonderful happened. Sassy came to Protectors of Animals and gradually began to relax. She began to accept and even solicit petting. She started to explore.
So far, Sassy has not been a fan of other cats. She can be nervous about being picked up. And often when she is out and about she will find a place that feels safe and hunker down to watch everything. But Sassy has also been known to climb into a lap for some snuggling. She likes a wand toy. She seems happy.
Sassy is looking forward to the long run. She wants a quiet home with someone will give her time to decompress, a lap to sit in when she is ready, and a promise that she will never be abandoned again. We want those things for her too.
If you are ready to offer Sassy (or some other deserving cat) that promise, please fill out the application on our website. Our placement team will be in touch by email to answer your questions, tell you about our adoption process, and make you an appointment to meet the available cats. If you aren’t able to promise forever right now (and we thank you for waiting until you are ready) or your home would not be a good fit for Sassy, please consider spreading the word.
Adoptions are now done by appointment only. Email [email protected] for more info and an appointment. Adopters must have an approved application before scheduling an appointment.
