We are scheduling appointments for adopters to come in and meet our available cats. You do not need to choose a specific cat and we are not placing cats on hold for specific adopters. Sugar Sweet needs to be the only cat in the home. She does not enjoy the company of other cats.
Six year old Sugar Sweet is a girl who absolutely lives up to her name. No coy games, no suspicious scrutiny, no hisses or claws when you reach out—not with this little darling. From the moment you meet, Sugar Sweet welcomes you like warm sunshine on a fresh spring day. For Sugar Sweet, all people are friends.
This lovely little cat’s happy demeanor is actually hard-won. Her former family moved away and simply left this beautiful cat behind. (Normally, we ask people not to judge when cats have hard back stories. This volunteer hereby gives you permission to go ahead and judge.) Neighbors fed her and tried to take care of her until she could get into POA. By the time she got to us, her beautiful long fur was matted and she had a skin condition that either caused or resulted from her nervous overgrooming.
Fortunately, once she was in the capable hands of POA’s medical team and a loving foster mom, life improved tremendously for Sugar Sweet. She’s had all her teeth removed, so she no longer has any dental problems. For a while, she wore adorable outfits to keep her from overgrooming, but she has started to calm down and we are hopeful that she will no longer need to dress up. (Which is not to say that she might not enjoy a nice rose-colored sweater that complements her dilute tortie coloring, but it’s strictly a matter of choice.)
Now, her foster mom says that Sugar Sweet will sit in your lap for hours. We believe it, because this angel loves to be petted and fussed over. She will happily play with whatever toys you offer—wand toys, stuffed ones, laser lights—but her favorite thing is to be loved. She’s not fond of being picked up, but when she climbs into your lap, be prepared for a cuddle session.
After her experiences outside, Sugar Sweet is understandably not a fan of other cats. All she wants is a peaceful home with no other pets where she can be loved and fussed over, played with and spoiled rotten. After all she’s been through, we think Sugar Sweet absolutely deserves such a home. If you’re looking for a loving companion to cuddle with, Sugar Sweet might just be the girl for you.
