“Make new friends, but keep the old.
One is silver, the other is gold.
A circle is round, it has no end.
That's how long, I will be your friend.”
~ Girl Scout Song
One year old Thin Mint was found wandering with another young cat (now adopted). She was scared and frighteningly thin. So thin that we were a little worried she might not make it. But this tiny girl is tenacious.
After some loving care, Thin Mint started eating. At first only if someone was with her to encourage her. And then because she was hungry! She started to accept pets. She started to play and explore. And as she relaxed, we relaxed.
Thin Mint is still a timid girl. She isn’t aggressive, but she can be scared of new situations, new cats, and new people. We think she would be happiest as an only cat or with one other cat, who respects her need for space. And she would likely do best in a quieter home with someone who has a little bit of cat experience.
At the shelter Thin Mint often tries to find a cubby or hidey hole to curl up in and watch the action. So far she has not tried to join in. She likes it when our volunteers come over to pet and cuddle with her, but she doesn’t initiate. Not yet. She loves a slow moving wand toy- which brings out her interest in hunting. But if you wave it too quickly with wild movements, that may scare her.
Thin Mint is adorable and strong and gentle. But she needs some help in getting her confidence back. She needs a human friend who will love her, encourage her, and play with her. Mostly, she needs someone who believes in her. And don’t we all.
Thin Mint doesn’t sing. She’s far too quiet for that. But if she could sing, we think that she would sing a song that would let you know that a circle has no end. And that if you take a chance on her, that’s how long she will be your friend.
